Paris 2024: Celebrating Team GB’s dazzling performance
Team GB put in another excellent performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing with a total of 65 medals, surpassing their tally from Tokyo 2020 and equalling their haul from London 2012.
The haul included 22 gold, 21 silver, and 22 bronze medals, a remarkable achievement in terms of medal count over recent Games.
As we look forward to the Paralympics (which we will be fortunate enough to attend), we highlight just a few of those achievements here.
Individual Achievements:
Swimming
Duncan Scott and Matt Richards excelled in the pool. Richards won gold in the men’s 200m freestyle, while Scott secured a silver in the same event. Additionally, Freya Colbert claimed gold in the women’s 400m individual medley.
Cycling
Tom Pidcock successfully defended his Olympic title in the men’s cross-country mountain bike race, showcasing his resilience and talent.
Equestrian
The equestrian team, comprising Laura Collett, Tom McEwen, and Ros Canter, won gold in the team eventing, continuing their strong performance from Tokyo.
Diving
Scarlett Mew Jensen and Yasmin Harper won bronze in the women’s synchronised 3m springboard.
Team Achievements:
Gymnastics
The men's artistic gymnastics team, led by Max Whitlock, clinched a silver medal in the all-around team final, improving on their fourth-place finish from Tokyo.
Canoe Slalom
Adam Burgess earned a silver medal in the men’s C1 event, improving from his near-miss in Tokyo.
How this compares with previous Olympics:
In Tokyo 2020, Team GB secured 64 medals (22 gold, 21 silver, and 21 bronze), while in Rio 2016, they won 67 medals (27 gold, 23 silver, and 17 bronze).
The consistent medal hauls over the past three Olympics reflect sustained high performance and strong support structures in British sports. Notably, the equestrian team and swimmers have been standout contributors to the medal tally in Paris, similar to previous Games.
Overall, Team GB's performance in Paris 2024 highlights their ability to maintain a high standard in Olympic competition, achieving notable successes across various sports and demonstrating the depth of talent within their athletic programs.
We at Rocca. would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Team GB along with all the dedicated and super talented people that made these Olympics the joy they were to witness.
